College football Week 5, 2026: the games that move a title price
College football’s Week 5 is Saturday, October 3. The human polls still have Texas at No. 1, and Texas does not play. That is the whole lesson of a title market in October: the team on a bye can move, because everyone else is supplying new information.
This note stays on teams and games. We do not cover markets on individual college athletes. The longer version of what Kalshi and Polymarket actually list, and why we stay on the team side of it, is the September piece.
The Saturday games that can change a ranking
Four matchups are doing the work this week. Times are as listed on the week’s published slate.
- Ohio State at Iowa, 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS. Ohio State is 3-1 and walking into Kinnick. Iowa is 4-0. A road game against an unbeaten defense is the first real stress test of October for a team that was No. 1 in some September rankings and is no longer.
- Miami at Clemson, 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Miami is 4-0 and sitting near the top of the polls. Clemson is 3-1 and at home. Night games in this stadium move conference prices, not just the game price.
- Alabama at Mississippi State. Alabama is 4-0 and scoring around 48 points a game through an easy opening month. Mississippi State is also 4-0. The next two weeks on Alabama’s schedule, Georgia at home on October 10 and Tennessee on October 17, are why this Saturday is a setup game rather than the main event.
- Florida at Missouri, 3:30 p.m. ET. Florida is 4-0 after beating Ole Miss. Missouri is 3-1. Florida’s October also includes a trip to Texas. A team can be unbeaten and still be priced as a visitor in its own division race.
Notre Dame already played North Carolina. Georgia already played Vanderbilt. Those results are in the book before Saturday’s late window. A title market on Saturday morning is not the same market as the one on Sunday morning, even if your team did not play.
Why No. 1 can change on a bye
Texas is 4-0, idle this week, and still the No. 1 team in the human polls. One computer ranking published October 3 put Georgia first and slid Texas to fourth, behind Ohio State and Notre Dame, on efficiency rather than on the head-to-head Texas already owns over Ohio State. You do not have to agree with the computer. You do have to notice what it is doing.
A national-championship contract is a price on the whole season, not a price on this week’s résumé. If Georgia looks like the most complete team while Texas rests, some of Texas’s cents move to Georgia without Texas playing a down. If Ohio State wins convincingly at Iowa, some of those cents move the other way, including away from teams that won. The idle team is in the market every Saturday. The idle team is just not generating the news.
That is also why a “win the national championship” price and a “win this Saturday” price should not be compared as if one were the other’s moneyline. Saturday settles one game. January settles the other. A 70-cent game favorite can be a 12-cent title longshot, and both numbers can be sensible.
How to read the board without turning it into a pick
- Name the contract. Game winner, conference, playoff spot, national title. Four markets, four settlement dates.
- Check who is actually playing. A contender on a bye is not “confirmed.” The field around them is being re-priced.
- Prefer team markets. Award markets and anything keyed to one college player are outside what we analyze. If the screenshot is a player market, it is the wrong screenshot.
- Hold the result loosely. Week 5 is early. Florida’s win over Ole Miss and Texas’s win over Tennessee are already in the price. Next week’s Georgia-Alabama game will matter more than most of this Saturday, and it has not been played.
Frequently asked
Does a bye week freeze a team’s title price? No. Other results change the paths. The price can drift on a Saturday the team spends at home.
Which venue lists the game? Weekly game contracts have been deeper on Kalshi than on Polymarket this season. Title futures are listed in both places. The September post has the map.
Is a computer poll a market? No. It is one model. The market is the traded price. When they disagree, that disagreement is the thing worth looking at, not a reason to crown a new No. 1 on a Tuesday.
Screenshot the team market you mean and drop it into the analyzer. The read is about the price in the screenshot. It is not a season forecast, and it is not a guarantee.
